General Overview

The University of Connecticut’s Office of the Fire Marshal and Building Inspector (OFMBI) was established in 2005 within the Division of Public and Environmental Safety (DPES) as the office responsible for code enforcement for buildings and construction projects which are not otherwise under the jurisdiction or responsibility of other Connecticut agencies. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Building Inspector is modeled after a municipal fire marshal’s office or building inspector’s office in its enforcement of the Connecticut State Fire Safety Code (CSFSC) through Connecticut General Statutes (CGS) 29-292-1e through 25e, and The Connecticut State Building Code (SBC) through Connecticut General Statutes 29-252a and 29-253.
