Suman Singha, Vice President for Research
The Vice President for Research is responsible for helping chart the research mission of the University and for enhancing the environment to enable the faculty to achieve that mission through externally funded research, and training and service programs. The Vice President for Research provides leadership in the development of major existing and emerging research areas and in the identification and cultivation of funding sources.
As a member of the President's cabinet, the Vice President for Research advises on major policy issues affecting the University, serves as the Institutional Official, provides leadership concerning research and graduate education, and serves as an advocate on these matters both within and outside the University. These activities include coordination of the University’s policies regarding interaction with industry as they contribute to promoting the State’s economic development goals.
Additionally, the Vice President for Research has specific responsibilities for oversight of research and other sponsored activities to ensure that faculty and staff are in compliance with University, sponsor, and state and federal regulations. Those responsibilities are carried out by the Office for Sponsored Programs and the Office of Research Compliance. These offices, in addition to certain interdisciplinary centers and institutes, report to the Vice President for Research.
