Academic Support Overview
Following on First Year Programs philosophical foundation emphasizing the importance of developing an effective relationship with the Self, with the academic aspect of UConn, and with the greater community and world, academic support utilizes a holistic approach to helping UConn students get the most from their time here.
Knowledge of UConn’s resources, self-knowledge, content knowledge, and process knowledge make up the backbone of academic support at the University of Connecticut. When students are not producing the kinds of grades they want, they may need to examine their motivation, their self management, their time management, their stress management, their understanding of course content, and/or their methods used to understand, remember, and manipulate the course material. The resources found here can help students understand themselves and the academic environment of a research extensive university.
The Academic Achievement Center is a walk-in service staffed by trained undergraduates to coach students in effective, efficient ways to study the material, develop time management strategies that work, and manage their stress so that it does not negatively impact their performance. This free process coaching service is open to UConn students who want to maximize their efforts to excel academically.
UConn Connects is a successful program that primarily provides one-to-one assistance to students who are on academic warning or probation, although it is open to students looking for contact with knowledge of the university, and success strategies and cognitions.
Our website offers a comprehensive listing of the content tutoring opportunities found on campus, as well as numerous resources addressing academic success. Faculty, staff and students can also sign up to be a UConn Connects facilitator. |
